Sewing - The little shirt dress!

As I've heard from others, I learned a lot from making this dress..

These were the biggest things I learned:

1. Next time, I'll use a sturdier shirt! The fabric on my thrift store find was pretty thin and threadbare.
2. I'll use the expanded pattern from Dana next time - the armpits are pretty tight on this one.
3. It would help to have a real child in mind for the dress, so that I could use actual measurements!

The waistband is from a pillow case that my Grandma Reese embroidered. Because it's her embroidery, I'm kind of reluctant to give the dress away. No remedy but having a baby girl of my own :)

  1. Oh this makes me so happy! Your creation is freakin CUTE. Love the shirt choice (sorry it was a pain though) and that waistband?? Adorable. Cool that it was your grandmother's embroidery.
Wow. You totally did the concept justice.
We'd love you to upload it to the flickr group!

  2. Thank you Dana! I'm ready to make more... Your dresses have all been so inspiring. I'm going to work on some type of design to make a boy's shirt from an old men's shirt - shouldn't be too difficult, and it will make my son happy - though I will admit that he tried the dress on for me :) I will upload to flickr later today!

  3. Elise, you and Sam can collaborate on a fashion line. I know of young men who began design careers at very early ages, whether fashion, interiors, landscaping, etc.
